Ginger Tomato Chutney

Ginger Tomato Chutney

Hellow everyone today morning when I was browsing thru a websites I came across this chutney. I had tried Onion Tomato Chutney before, but this was completely new to to me and I immediately wanted to try :)

I always want to try new kind of chutneys for idli and dosa apart from which is regular at my home.
I also did try a few from other blogs and it was super duper hit at home :)

I was going the recipe index of Tickling Palates and came across this recipe, I did the exact way as it has been mentioned so just copy pasting from there :)

You’ll need:

  • Tomato – 2
  • Ginger – 3 inch piece
  • Dry Whole red chillies – 6
  • Urad dal – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Oil – 1 tbsp

Method:

Heat 1/2 tbsp of oil in a kadai. Add urad dal and when it gets roasted add the dry red chillies and roast for a minute. Keep aside.

Add peeled ginger pieces and sauté till the ginger shrinks a bit and becomes soft. Keep aside.

Add the chopped tomatoes and sauté with a pinch of salt till it shrinks and becomes soft too. Let it cool. Grind everything together with salt using little water to a fine paste.

Heat the remaining oil in the same kadai. Add mustard seeds. When it splutters add the ground chutney to the tempering and cook for a minute and transfer to the serving bowl.

Serve with steaming soft idlis, crispy dosas or flaky rotis.

My Notes:
-  I made half of the quantity mentioned here

- Since I cannot stand extra tangy taste of tomatoes I used and tried to correct it by adding 1tbsp of peanuts  while grinding to give some sweetened taste. I dint grind it to fine paste, but coarsely left the bits of peanuts so that it mite crunch here n there while eating. Thats the reason why the chutney I made looks Thicker in texture than the original one :)
- I have used minimal oil here I always try to cut down the calories which comes from oil, so the reason my chutney texture isnt smooth :)

Impression:
This was perfect to taste, The basic Chutney remained very flavorful and really different, The taste can be felt still now after hrs of eating it with my yumm dosa :)
My brother and me liked it alot

I enjoyed this Chutney with perfect fluffy Crunch Dosa :) I will discuss the method of this Dosa in Next post for sure :)

You need to try this to know the taste and enjoy!!!!!
