French Toast

French Toast

Monday morning are so lazy!!! And what can more satisfying If you get to prepare a simple breakfast for yourself and your family????
French toast has been my fav since childhood and Every time we get bread at home I enjoy myself making french toast its like a mini treat to my taste buds I dont know why but its definitely a treat for me to myself lolzz

I like this toast exactly as it is authentic but my parents and bro dont like sugar and milk along with this eggy toast. So its my individual treat. Will also share my other versions soon :)
Lets take a Look Upon the details via lil Googling!!

In FranceBelgiumNew OrleansAcadianaNewfoundland and the Congo, French toast is called pain perdu, which means "lost bread" in French. It is called "lost bread" because it is a way to reclaim stale or "lost" bread. The hard bread is softened by dipping in a mixture of milk and eggs, and then fried. The bread is sliced on a bias and dipped into a mixture of egg, milk, sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. The slices are pan-fried in butter and traditionally dusted with powdered sugar and served with jam or syrup on the side.

This was a lil story of french toast, lets get back to our story now :)

Ingredients
4 slices bread any kind of regular bread slices (I prefer thick slices that are a day old...slightly hard)
2 tbsp. butter, melted
2 eggs
2 tbsp. milk or more adjusting consistency
1 tbsp. honey or sugar (optional)
salt and pepper to taste (you can omit the pepper if you want them un-spiced)
Method
- Whisk the eggs with butter, milk, honey/sugar, salt and pepper.
- Then dip the slices one at a time on both sides, Coat it well both the sides.. but don't dip them too long coz they might fall apart if they get too soggy.
- Place on a lightly buttered frying pan and cook on each side on low heat until the color is nice and golden and the center is firm. Serve with honey, powdered sugar, fruits, syrup or just enjoy them plain!  I like it plain as it is :)
Serve it hot or in room temp!! (see notes)

Mom's Love:
When my mom sees me making this she would love to have few slices too :) but she prefers a simpler version, with no milk sugar, Bread slices dipped into well whisked egg + salt is more than enough for her to have a satisfying appetite. May be I can say it is an appetite of satisfying taste buds as snacking rather having it just for breakfast :) Similarly my bro and dad like it this way more.

Notes:
- Adding cinnamon gives extra flavor, we can add or avoid as per our wish. I had tried once cinnamon and vanilla flavoring, And I obtained very satisfying taste. Enjoyed every bit of it :)
- If you dont have cinnamon powder just add a stick to milk mixture and let it remain, the flavors will infuse. Atleast for me I like mild flavorings!!!
- Make sure to cook in low heat and fry it well each sides, so that eggs get cooked which has soaked up into bread slices.
- I personally think it would be better to consume when it comes down to room temperature, As when it is hot it might feel uncooked and eggy from inside, which might make u feel eating raw egg uncooked toast, But once it cools down Its perfectly set, may be once again u heat up a lil warm if ur really keen on having warm toast :)
